Apple is bringing the technology to scan the eyeball

APPLE VISION PRO

Various devices made by Apple currently use face and fingerprint recognition technology to confirm user identity. This time Apple is going to launch a new identification facility called ‘Optic ID’ to keep users safe. Initially, users of Apple’s ‘Vision Pro’ headset will be able to use Optic ID. The identity of users will be confirmed by scanning the eyeball through Optic ID. As a result, it will provide more security to users than face and fingerprint recognition technologies.

The phone can be scrolled by eye gestures without finger touch. Even if it sounds surprising, the giant Apple is going to bring a smartphone that can move with eye gestures. The company is testing a new feature for users of its Vision Pro headset, which will enable scrolling, navigation and content exploration with just eye gestures without the help of hands.

According to Apple, Optic ID users’ eyes will be scanned in the same way as fingerprints or facial scans. As a result, only certain people can use the Vision Pro headset through Optic ID. Using Optic ID, transactions can be made securely from Apple Pay, as well as direct login to various apps developed by other organizations.

Apple said that all biometric data including users’ Optic ID will be stored in encrypted form. Even these data will not be stored in iCloud or any other server. Optic ID can be turned on from Vision Pro’s settings. An advanced tracking system with infrared camera, LEDs will soon be added to the Vision Pro headset to enable this new feature.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has long been working to build a new digital identity system and a new network of financial transactions around the world. For this, in 2019, he launched an organization called ‘World’ along with Max Novenstern and Alexe Blania. The aim of the company is to create a digital identity by scanning the iris of the human eye, which can be used as a digital passport in the future. Since 2023, the company has scanned the eyes of more than 12 million people in 20 countries to create a digital identity. This time, the company wants to create a digital identity by scanning the eyes of people living in the United States.

World has set up ‘Orb’ machines in the cities of Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville and San Francisco to create digital identity by scanning the eyes. According to the company, the spherical orb device scans the iris of the human eye and generates a digital identity code called ‘Iriscode’. It is then linked to the ‘World ID’. The company claims that through this digital ID, a user can verify his identity online anonymously. It can be used to log in to websites, receive government services, or even vote in the future.

According to the World, by 2025, there are plans to install about seven and a half thousand orb devices in different cities of the United States. The device will initially be installed in designated central in six cities, but more orbs will be installed in each of Razer gaming stores, cafes and university campuses. Users’ eye data or iris code is not stored on any central server. Being stored on the blockchain. It is a decentralised and secure data storage technology.

It should be noted that on February 2, the vision pro headset made with a combination of AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) technology came to the market. In addition to watching 3D (three-dimensional) videos in the Vision Pro headset, Apple’s apps such as Messages, Facetime, Maps, and other organizations can be used comfortably. The Vision Pro headset can also detect the user’s eye and finger movements. As a result, any app, image or video can be controlled by eye and finger gestures

Apple is testing a groundbreaking feature for its Vision Pro headset, which will allow users to scroll with just eye gestures. That is, long text reading, app browsing or content navigation – all will be possible without moving hands.

The feature is being included in the upcoming VisionOS 3 software, according to prominent Apple analyst Mark Gurman. In the new operating system, the screen will focus exactly where the eye is. You can go from menu to menu or scroll pages very easily with just eye sight.

This feature will first work with Apple’s own apps. But Apple is also rolling out tools for third-party app developers to add eye-controlled scrolling to their apps. As a result, a new type of hands-free interaction experience is going to be created, which will keep Apple ahead in the virtual and mixed reality world.

Experts say this is a major breakthrough not just technologically, but also in terms of user experience and accessibility. For those who cannot physically use their hands, this feature could be a revolutionary solution.

Apple’s innovation technology can change the future of interface design in the world. This attempt to transform the power of eye sight into computing commands proves that Apple is still one of the pioneers in building the future.
